The cabinet color is moulded into it and not painted. The gold accents look incredible over the blue. This set sounds and display very well. This is a great opportunity to own a scarce vintage atomic era radio. It has two minor blemishes; a heat crack on the top, which can only be seen at the right angle, and one on the bottom corner. Both have been repaired
