Antique Japanese Meiji Era Ceramic Blue & White Hibachi Brazier Teachers of Art 9” Statue Published by Takemura HideoThis is an antique Japanese ceramic hibachi likely from the Meiji era (1868 1912). In beautiful cobalt blue glaze it shows four scenes of teachers instructing pupils in various subjects: the strategic game of Go, music, writing and painting. Traditionally in Japan a hibachi is considered an enclosure for fire, usually hot coals sitting on a bed of ash used to help heat small spaces, lite a pipe or warm water for tea. A great container for plants and
