The peasant levy could make up a bulk of an army during this time period but were rarely the decisive element in a battle. They were raised in one of three ways, as members of a lord's household, as mercenaries, or levied from a town or the countryside. Many of the men were armed, had some training, and came from the upper peasantry, the tenant farmers who would have at one time had prior experience of a battle. This hard plastic box set
