We define third places as the communal settings distinct from home (the first place) and work (the second place). The concept of the Third Place was originated by the urban sociologist, Ray Oldenburg. While we honor his defintion, we acknowledge its limitations. Our publication aims to re intepret the third place in order to celebrate the joys of the built environment and how people build community today and in the future
