They dont let you play the original card, but rather create a copy of a creature
If a creature that dies leaves the graveyard before Meathook Massacre II's second or third ability (as appropriate) resolves, that creature won't return to the battlefield whether or not life was paid
While I can see a need to put more Equipment in this particular deck, as theres only 16 core Equipment cards and drawing cards isnt always kind, its still a very well-rounded deck, with simple but powerful mechanics
While Snapcaster Mage still sees some play in Modern, its clearly not the haymaker it used to be

During upkeep, your opponent may choose instead to sacrifice a permanent to add another two time counters to Curse of the Cabal to keep it exiled for a couple more turns
