エリアス・カネッティの優れた紀行文「マラケシュの声」は僕の好きな本で、数年に一度それとなく読みかえしている。そしてそのつど、もう四半世紀も前のことになってしまったぼくの、わすが一週間にすぎなかったマラケシュへの旅について、 遠い記憶を呼びさます思いで、あのマグレブの、さまざまな音色と匂いと雑踏の情景が、ふと瞼に懐かしく立ち戻ってくるのだ。
