Originally post colonial tools traded to Mori, ptiti are hatchets with the heads made from the repurposed European iron of axes or harpoons. Typically, the tools were ground down to make them substantially lighter and then attached to native wooden handles to make effective weapons. This ptiti was crafted by Alex Sands from an antique iron axe head with the handle carved from sperm whale
