so preumably these spurs were for an officer in the Irish Guards or the Royal Irish Regiment

It has two sets of bit rings in the manner of a Wilson snaffle, the inner pair of rings are connected via "S" hooks to another pair of rings. Presumably the upper hanging rings could be detached from hooks on the bridle, making this a watering bit. It was probably used on a dray or farm horse. One of the snaffle rein rings is quite worn. There are no identifying marks.
