祖母绿标本产自中华人民共和国云南省文山壮族苗族自治州麻栗坡县猛硐乡大丫口矿区（老君山成矿带）。标本为伟晶岩型祖母绿晶簇围岩标本，绿柱石六方柱状单晶、聚晶呈针状、长柱状嵌布于白云石-石英脉围岩中；致色元素以钒为主，呈浅翠绿色至鲜绿色，玻璃光泽，柱面横纹发育；围岩分两类：一类为深灰色变质岩基底，伴云母、硫化物微晶；另一类为白色块状白云石脉，裂隙充填少量石英；晶体自形程度中等，局部可见完整柱面终端，共生脉石矿物晶型规整。
