As a companion it would be ubiquitous in any blue-red-X deck given the formats singleton nature, which gives those decks an extra card for free without any additional deckbuilding costs or restrictions
As cool as it would've been to see a main-set reprint of the card, remember that Final Fantasy will be Standard-legal, and the world's probably not ready for free counters in Standard again

I can still remember my dad purchasing one of the original base booster sets and giving me a pack every time I did my chores or had managed to be well behaved (which is easy to do when you know Pokemon cards are coming)
