Even when all you got out of this was the discard the overpayment wasn't that dramatic, and many decks were forced to adjust their builds to minimize the damage

The details of success or failure are based on the scenario and how many of the scenarios objectives were completed during the game (the campaign manual describes exactly how well the players did or didnt do)

This makes archetype aggro decks much less popular in Commander because its so much more difficult to finish off games quickly
