The activated ability is the real core

Plenty of rares and even uncommons outperform mythic rares in competitive play

While treasure tokens only provide a single instance of colored mana, that's often all you need to pull way ahead of your opponents

The anthem allows for an alpha strike if you have a nice board, the token ability allows you to refill your board if it gets wiped, and his +1 gives you a threat other than just creatures with which to defeat your opponents

It also works with cards like Scapeshift or Seismic Assault quite nicely

It isn't so much about this being better than Mizzium Mortars or Oblitering Bolt but more about how much better your deck looks when you can replace a two drop with a one drop and lose almost nothing in doing so
